Gary Procop,
MD, MS, MEd

Dr. Gary W. Procop, M.D., M.S., M.Ed., currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the American Board of Pathology and is a consultant at Moffitt Cancer Center. Having dedicated a substantial part of his career to the Cleveland Clinic, where he held numerous leadership roles, Dr. Procop remains a consulting staff and a Professor of Pathology.

His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University, followed by an M.D. and M.S. from Marshall University School of Medicine. Dr. Procop completed his residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Duke University Medical Center, with a subsequent Clinical Microbiology Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Recently, he earned a Masters of Education in Health Professions from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Procop is a diplomat of the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology and medical microbiology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, the College of American Pathologists, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Recognized for his contributions, Dr. Procop has given over 750 presentations, authored 251 manuscripts, 57 chapters, and five books. He is President-Elect of the Board of Directors of the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute and a Member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Medical Specialties. His primary interests include assessment-driven learning, best practices in laboratory testing, infectious disease pathology, mycology, and parasitology, reflecting his dedication to shaping the future of the medical field.
